A book that made you cry
My friend A. from Utrecht, who happens to be my neighbour (kind of) told me that she had to cry A LOT while reading this book, so, even though I had never read this book before, I took my chances and decided to read it for the challenge 'a book that made you cry'. And cry I did. A LOT. Yesterday was really awful: I was crying on the couch constantly. Lovely day! And, needless to say, I absolutely loved the book! A very nice love story indeed!
I really liked the style of writing: it was fast paced and you were immediately hooked on the story. Even though the general story line is a bit predictable (namely that Holly gets a letter every month from April (where we start) until December), the author is able to sneak in some surprises. An example of this is that a chapter starts with a story about Barbara (who the hell is Barbara? A new character in the middle of the book? Why?), but turns out to be a flashback concerning Gerry. Nice subtle twists in perspective.
A quote from the book that I absolutely loved and wanted to share here:
"Shoot for the moon and if you miss you'll still be among the stars."
I really loved it; it is a good book to have a cry over. Highly recommended!
